As trauma is a result of our Nervous System being completely overwhelmed whether by a single incident or repeated incidents (childhood trauma, domestic violence ect), healing must involve working with the body, working with the nervous system. Somatic therapy assists increasing the persons window of tolerance, and ability to sit with difficult body sensations and suppressed emotions.

It helps couples to find new ways of communicating that don't trigger a response of defensiveness, criticism, stonewalling or contempt, also known as the four horsemen.
As part of providing its services, GEM Therapeutic Counselling Services will collect and record personal information that is relevant to your current situation. The storage and use of information is regulated by the Privacy Act 1988 and this information will be stored securely and not released or discussed with outside parties (subject to confidentiality set out in client contract). As per the AASW recommendations, information is kept for a period of 7 years (aged 18+). For young people (aged under 18), information is kept until their 25th birthday. This information will be disposed of confidentially.
GEM Therapeutic Counselling Services requires a minimum of 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or postpone your appointment, if this is not provided a cancellation fee of 50% may apply.
Sessions will go for 50-60 minutes and cost $175.
Payment is to be made within 7 days of attended appointment and made by funds transfer.
